The Kangaroo Island Health Service is one of the South Australian Hospitals recognised by the signatories to the 1976 Commonwealth/State cost sharing agreement which provides for the joint sharing of the net deficit operating costs of these hospitals by State and Commonwealth Governments. The Hospital is an accredited Multi Purpose Service incorporated under the South Australian Health Commission Act and is governed by a Board of Directors. It is the responsibility of the Board to govern the Hospital in accordance with the approved Constitution and its approved role and function.
